Washer Not Filling With Water

Appliance: Washer — Model: N/A

Question Details:
My washer is not filling with water and the valves are on. What is the problem.

If your washer isn't filling with water even though the water supply valves are turned on, here are the most common issues to check:

  • Clogged Inlet Screens: The screens inside the fill hoses or water valve ports may be clogged with debris. Turn off the water, disconnect the hoses, and inspect both ends for blockages.
  • Faulty Water Inlet Valve: The solenoid-controlled valve may have failed. If it's not opening when energized, it needs to be replaced.
  • Failed Water Level Sensor: If the pressure switch or sensor thinks the tub is already full, it won't allow more water in. This can prevent filling even when it's actually empty.
  • Control Board or Timer Issues: If all mechanical parts are good, the washer’s control system may not be sending the signal to fill. This usually requires further electrical testing.

Start by checking the inlet screens and hoses. If those are clear, the inlet valve is the next most common failure point and is relatively easy to replace. If you need a part number for the water inlet valve, just submit a follow up question with your washer model number requesting the part number for the water valve and we will be glad to give you that information.

I tested the valve and it's definitely the problem. I'm getting voltage to it, but it's not opening. Can you tell me the correct part number for the water valve? My washer model number is MVWB455YQ0
MasterTech Reply:

Thanks for confirming that. Since the valve is getting voltage but not opening, it’s definitely the source of the problem.

For your model MVWB455YQ0, the correct replacement part is:

➡️ Maytag Washer Water Inlet Valve – Part #DY26372000MT

Once replaced, that should restore normal water flow. Be sure to shut off power and water before installing the new valve. Let me know if you’d like help with the replacement steps!
